Life as a family caregiver can be hectic and overwhelming. While processing emotions and attending to daily tasks, taking time out to breathe may not be on the top of many caregivers ‘to-do’ list. But it needs to be.
This article; 20 Scientifically Backed Ways To De-Stress Right Now has some great insights for de-stressing. You just might find something that will work for you.
Walking and breathing deeply are a couple of ideas that are discussed. Walking can lower cortisol levels which reduces stress which is paramount for caregivers to prolong their own life as well as having more clarity and energy while caring for their loved one.
What we have found out first hand at Breathing Spaces, is the support that you gain by becoming part of a walking group is powerful. You can communicate with others going through similar circumstances giving a bit of release and light into your day. Knowing you are not alone and gaining insight from others can be some of the most significant support you’ll have.
If you live in the South Bay Area of California, I encourage you to join us at the Breathing Spaces Walks with our Affiliate Organization Partner, Bay Area Cancer Connections. The walks are held twice monthly on Saturdays at 9:30 AM at 3160 Shoreline Boulevard in Mountain View, CA. And, they continue every other Saturday at the same time/location. Note: we also offer walks on Wednesdays, too. To join us, please visit our website to sign up here.
It is our goal to reach out to as many cities as possible. If you’re not in the area and know of an organization near you that you feel would be good for us to connect with to begin additional walks, we’d love to hear from you. Email us or call (408) 315-2227.
Please do something for yourself today (and every day), you need and deserve it and your loved one does too.
Be well,
Cyndi
