Steps for Creating Attainable Goals

Here we are, embarking on a New Year, and perhaps wondering what the future will bring. Will you be able to find the time for more of what brings joy into your life? Will the magic door open to create more happiness for you?

When we come into this world, we don’t come in with a roadmap. No assurances to precisely what our future will bring, and the steps on how we should work through it. The ability to see with clarity the results of our actions and words would be a grand gift, indeed.

It can be very easy and understandable in your family caregiving days to step into the river of doubt, frustration, or fear. Though there may not always be a clear direction or road map of our next steps, we do have the ability to live with an open heart even through times where perhaps it’s been crushed.

Happiness in our lives doesn’t come from an outside source. Yes, of course, finding help with your day to day chores would be a huge help. No doubt. But perhaps simply tapping into your own inner happiness can give you the most significant breathing space of all.

Try the following; on a sheet of paper, make a list of all of your goals and the things that you need help (something that will make your life easier and bring you happiness).

For instance:

  • Make a weekly meal plan on Saturday

  • Walk 15 minutes every day

  • Spend 10 minutes in the morning writing in my gratitude journal

  • Read something every week that inspires me (find an inspirational Facebook page like our Breathing Spaces page)

The article written by James Clear on Achieving Your Goals cites several studies on the topic. “Simply by writing down a plan that said exactly when and where they intended to exercise, the participants in Group 3 were much more likely to actually follow through.”

Your life is busy and filled with emotions, so taking the time to create a plan, a map if you will, of steps to take, can help to eliminate chaos. One step at a time, give yourself an opportunity for peace.

Hugs,

Cyndi
