I found myself in a place over the past few weeks of running from one thing to the next, and before I knew it, my wheels were shaking! Tending to the details in the aftermath of my brother’s passing, personal things that needed to be cared for, helping a friend who is going through an illness – within five minutes, I mentally bounced around to every one of these activities.
Fortunately, I knew the signs of spinning wheels and stopped myself before it was too late. I know many people who keep going at that pace for extended periods and then absolutely crash. No doubt, when you remain at that elevated state, your health will decline, and your decision-making will fall to the wayside.
In the mix of overwhelm that can happen in our lives, from the usual to-dos to the unexpected, are you taking time to stop? To B-R-E-A-T-H-E? Be honest with yourself. We all think we can handle a lot, and at times we have to. Try changing up the usual protocol you have done into an energetic shift. Energy is powerful stuff – what you put in you get back multiplied abundantly. Be aware of the negative you send out (or in) because it is likely to produce more.
- Focus on the moment. I can about guarantee when you’re in five places at once, you’ve stopped breathing.
- Make a list of everything that needs to be accomplished and split those lists up into areas. Work, home, loved one.
- Disrupt the spinning brain by going outside for a walk or take long deep breaths.
- Stop negative language such as “I’ll never get this done!” “Why is all of the happening?” Change to positive instead “I know there is a lot here, and I will do what I can, and the rest will get done in time.” “I will get through this.”
By all means, embrace the small things that show up. This morning on the way to the dentist, as traffic was gearing up and folks were cutting each other off in a panic at the stoplight, I took a long deep breath and looked up to see a full moon gazing down upon all of us. The power we have is in the moment; the positive that can happen comes from the simplest things that show up. And they do, every, single, day.
I encourage you to pause. It won’t ‘fix’ everything, but it will give you light into the day.
Hugs,
Cyndi
