About Vigil Planning
Vigil Planning
Brought to you by Tiffany Baker
As an End-of-Life Doula, one of the most common things I’ve seen folks struggle with is how to support their loved one who is dying. People come to visit the dying person and they want to participate in some way, they want to help. But what do we do for our loved one on their deathbed?
A Vigil Plan can provide a guidebook for visitors to provide support. A Vigil Plan can contain:
- Things to consider before entering the room
- Atmospheric elements
- Guidelines for welcome/unwelcome sounds
- Lighting requests
- Things the person would like to have read to them
- Requests for specific types of touch
- Conversation welcome in the space
Ideally, a Vigil Plan is created with the person who is dying before they become too ill, but this isn’t necessary or always possible. To create a Vigil Plan, I can work 1×1 with you, your loved one who is dying, or with members of your family to put together a beautiful visual booklet of information specifically curated for your loved one on their deathbed.
