The Gift That Keeps on Giving

Here we are at year’s end, the holiday’s upon us. I think about the glitter lying about from holiday cards I’ve opened, and it reminds me of things I’ve done throughout the year – a little here, a little there.

It’s important not to neglect our emotional jar of glitter and be sure we are keeping it filled back up. Days pass quickly, nights often without a full night’s sleep. Due to the emotions and to-dos. So now is the time to give the perfect gift for yourself, too.

Running on empty emotional reservoirs can lead to added stress and sickness, and it’s often difficult to recover. Have you stopped long enough to realize (with our judgment or emotions) just how much you’ve done through the year? I’d be willing to guess, much more than you’ve given yourself credit for doing. Stop for a few minutes, pour yourself a cup of tea, and reflect on how you can give back to yourself.

The practice of gratitude can be one of the most important gifts we can give ourselves. Something often neglected, it is truly one of the most important things we can give ourselves and ultimately, our loved ones.

Studies published in the article 7 Scientifically Proven Benefits Of Gratitude That Will Motivate You To Give Thanks Year-Round indicate the benefits of gratitude – health and overall well being. Take special note of the physical and physiological benefits … powerful.

Here are some additional ways to gift back to yourself:

  • Watch your self-talk throughout the day. Are you beating yourself up for forgetting something? Change the negative voice to “It’s ok; you’ve got a lot going on.”

  • Carve out time, literally make an appointment on your calendar every week to take half an hour to do something for yourself. Stop for a coffee, go for a walk, sit on a bench, and breathe.

  • Take a long bath, add some soothing music, and perhaps aromas, to the room.

  • Grab a blanket and escape with your favorite movie; a couple of distracting hours can make a significant difference.

  • Don’t wait until it’s too late, start the practice of giving to yourself.

May peace find its way into your heart throughout the holidays.

Hugs,

Cyndi
